Ron Donovan and Chuck Sperry of the Firehouse Kustom Rockart Company met Chris Hopewell from Bristol, England at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas in 2005. In 2007, while conducting a silkscreen print demonstration at Flatstock poster convention, Chuck and Ron spoke at length to Chris about getting started with his own print studio. Inspired by the demonstration, Chris Hopewell went home to the United Kingdom and opened a silkscreen print studio with partners and called it Jacknife Posters.
By the time Firehouse toured the United Kingdom in 2008, Mr. Hopewell and the Jacknife print collective would have dozens and dozens of cool rock posters under their belt. Since 2007, Jacknife has been spreading art of rock to Great Britain – most notably by producing posters in the open air at the Glastonbury Music Festival.
Jacknife posters have a bold style informed by a punk aesthetic. Using surprising imagery, Jacknife pares their posters down to a clear, direct statement. They design and print their unambiguous, rebellious posters with a hands-on silkscreen process that informs their art.
Come and celebrate our San Francisco joint show as we get ready to go together to SXSW in Texas and later to the Glastonbury Music Festival in England as Jacknife has invited Firehouse to join them for the Glastonbury Music Festival print demonstration this June 23rd through June 27th.
- Firehouse and Jacknife will be sharing a booth at SXSW/Flatstock Poster Convention – March 17th, 18th and 19th
- Jacknife has invited Firehouse to join them for the Glastonbury Music Festival print demonstration in Somerset, England – June 23rd through June 27th.

“I’ve had enough of someone else’s propaganda. I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I’m a human being first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.”

“Emory Douglas: Black Panther” includes a wide variety of Douglas’s work done while a member of the Black Panther Party. Curated by the Los Angeles artist Sam Durant, whose work often deals with political and cultural subjects in American history, the show includes approximately 165 posters, newspapers, and prints dating from 1967–76.
Durant met Emory Douglas in 2002 and began working on a book of Douglas’s work, which resulted in a monograph published in 2007. Two years later Durant curated “Black Panther: The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, which serves as a model for the exhibition at the New Museum.
The presentation of “Emory Douglas: Black Panther” at the New Museum is organized by Laura Hoptman, Kraus Family Senior Curator with Amy Mackie, Curatorial Assistant.
Station 4 is proud to present the art of Emory Douglas, former Minister of Culture of The Black Panther Party, by introducing three historic propaganda art pieces originally published in the Black Panther newspaper in 1970 and 1971.
The featured limited edition art pieces are the first of a twelve print series and the images have never before been available to the public as art prints.
